Background
Business customers typically prefer to keep their existing phone numbers for three main reasons:
- Their clients are already familiar with the number, and changing it can create confusion for an established business
- Their current phone number and device setup already fits their day-to-day operations
- Porting a number can feel time-consuming, and there’s often concern about the number being lost in the process
A quick note on porting phone numbers:
Telekit supports number porting and ensures your number is securely transferred. The process typically takes 1–2 weeks and requires the authorized account holder to complete and sign the necessary forms.

Prefer not to port your number?
You can still use Telekit without changing your existing setup. This will require you to keep your current device and phone network connection as it'll be the first point of contact for your customer.
Benefits include:
- Get a professional phone system up and running quickly while keeping your current business number
- Prioritize a live representative who can answer the call when your device initially rings; if unavailable, calls are automatically forwarded to Telekit
- Once forwarded to Telekit, your app can greet them, list them menu options relevant to your business
- You don't have to port over your number, so you can maintain the relationship with your existing carrier and keep your phone number with them
How to get started:
- Get a new phone number from Telekit
- Set up your phone application
- Publish your application to go live
- Enable call forwarding on your device:
- iPhone
To set up call forwarding on an iPhone, go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Forwarding, toggle it on, and enter the desired number. If the option is missing or does not work, contact your carrier, as GSM networks support this directly, while CDMA networks may require special codes. - Android
To enable call forwarding on Android, open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu (or settings gear), select Supplementary services (or "Calling accounts"), and choose Call forwarding > Voice calls. Choose "Always forward" or specific scenarios (busy, unanswered, unreachable) and enter the phone number - Desk phone
To set up call forwarding on a desk phone, pick up the handset, dial *72 (or your provider's code), enter the 10-digit forwarding number (Telekit phone number), and hang up after hearing a confirmation tone or beep. To deactivate, dial *73. This works for most landlines, with options for no-answer forwarding (*92) also available.
